Crazy but fun weekend!!!
So it wasn't only a crazy weekend, but a crazy week altogether. It started with Steph expressing that she is feeling like she doesn't have enough friends in our new neighborhood. So I thought that maybe letting the kids have a Halloween party and inviting some new friends over might help. I told them we'd have to keep things small and they could only invite 3 friends each. Well that ending up Turning into 4 then 5 then 10...but I was successfully able to reign it in to a total of 14 kids. The hardest part was figuring out a day that Daddy could be home to help and have the party actually happen before Halloween. On Wednesday, we finally decided that Saturday would be the day. Murphy's law was that I was crazy busy at work and the kids were off school for the UEA break so my normal crazy life would be a bit crazier and to top that off, Uncle Ray called and said that the Crimson Line was doing it's yearly workshop and fund raiser to let the little girls come learn a dance and perform at the Saturday half-time show. Naturally, the same day as the party....again crazy is the new normal, right.
So we spent Wed-Friday getting the things for the party ready, trying to get my work newsletter produced and out and the girls had their workshop practice on Friday from 4-8pm. Naturally the workshop had 1 little gal trying to check in 300 little girls an their parents, so we waited there in a tiny hallway with no ventilation for about an hour with said 300 girls...I figure it is god preparing me for hell (tiny space, lots of people and very hot). Once the girls got in though it was good and they really enjoyed the class. The night ended with Zach telling me he had a sore throat...again, I think crazy is the new normal.
Saturday morning came much too quick and we got up and running finishing the last minute decorations, getting the house cleaned up a bit, wondering if we should call the whole thing off as Zach seems to be getting worse. Just when I was getting ready to take the girls to the game without Zach and Chris, he perks up and says he feels better so off we go to the game. I got to watch a bit of the first half then we had to take the girls down into the Tunnel to get ready for the show. Again little tiny space, 300 girls but luckily it wasn't quite as hot, in-fact, it was shady and a bit cooler then where our seats are, so that was kind of nice, although it was crazy and disorganized, so I was afraid to leave the girls. My friend Jolynn with with her daughter Ryleigh and Tay to their spot and I stayed with Steph, until she told me to get lost, I was embarrassing her. And so it begins.....I have a hard time letting go, but I'm getting better. After I instructed Steph to stand right next to her teacher and not leave her sight, I went and found the other girls. Their group had about 20 girls and only one teacher, so she asked a few of us parents to stay with them on the field during the dance to make sure they stayed put. Twist my arm....I got to go onto the field and watch the performance from there. That was tough for me... :)
The dance lasted all of about 2 mins for all of that preparation but it was well worth it. Chris could see Steph from where he was and said that Tay made it onto the Mega Tron. Trust her with a 1-in 300 chance she gets the spotlight. I tell you that kid is going to be a star....but that is another story.
The game went well, we killed Colorado state on the way to 8-0. We are now ranked 11th in the nation and only have to beat New Mexico, TCU at home, San Diego and BYU at home...and we are guaranteed a BCS bowl....shouldn't be too tough right :)
It also wasn't bad watching BYU get rolled by TCU and dropping to 21st in the nation ending their BCS dreams.... But I'm going to get too excited, as with as crazy as this football season has been, it could happen to anyone. However, regardless of what happens to the Utes from here on out, this week we are better in every way than BYU...and that feels great!!!!!!!
And Zach got to take a picture with the Pirate...
The party ended up with 9 of the 12 invited showing up. We made a bubbling witches brew, ate mummy dogs and bat bellies, decorated sugar cookies, played the donut game, bingo, don't eat Pete and a rousing game of freeze dance. All in all it was a great party with Zach resting most of the time. Poor kid picked a horrible time to get sick.
Now we still have Halloween, but I tell you, I'm partied out for now!
